Description: Plant 12-40 cm. Rhizome tough with wiry roots, forming dense clumps. Leaves linear, 10-60 x 1.5-5 mm at anthesis. Bract and bracteole sheathing perianth tube, long-tapering at apex, 7-25 cm. Flowers fragrant, lavender-blue to deep lilac, veined darker, with a yellow median stripe on falls. Perianth tube 9-28 cm. Falls oblanceolate, 6-8 x 1-2 cm, acute, with a narrow long-tapering claw;standards obianceolate, 6-8 x 0.8-1.5 cm, acute; stylar tube 1.5-2 cm; style branches 2.5-3 x 0.3-0.4 cm, with acute lobes 1-1.2 x0.2 cm., Capsule ellipsoid, 3-4 x 1-1.5 cm, carried on a short peduncle.
Biology: Flowering from December to April.
Habitat: Rocky places, on banks, in dry scrub or open coniferous woods, s.l-1090 m.
Distribution: East Mediterranean region, including Greece, Turkey (West and South Anatolia), West Syria North-West Africa (disjunct).
