Common names: Ophrys cendrée [Fr], Kleinblütige Braune Ragwurz [De]

Karşıyaka (Bασιλεια, Vasileia), Kyrenia (Girne, Κερύνεια) ● Cyprus

Description: Small plant of 7-25 cm height, with 2-8 flowers.
The sepals are whitish green, 7-12 x 4.5-6 mm; the petals yellowish, oblong, 6-8.6 mm.
The labellum is convex, 7.5-11 mm, trilobite, knee-like bending at its base, which creates a strong downward flexure of the flower. The labellum is covered of dense dark brown hairs, with a greenish yellow edge. The speculum is dark blue, with two narrow crescents forming a bluish ω with little contrast.

Biology: The pollinator is Andrena cinereophila. Flowering from late February to April.

Habitat: Full sun, on calcareous soils ; wastelands, pastures, scrubland, olive groves, light pine forests, up to 700 m altitude.

Distribution: Anatolia, Crete, Eastern Aegean islands, Evia, South eastern Peloponnesus, Cyprus.
