Laerma, RHODES ● Greece

Description: Erect plant of 15-42 cm high. The lower part of the stem and the leaves are often spotted with red lines. The 6-9 leaves are lanceolate. Inflorescence elongate with 3-12 flowers. The flowers are reddish with a long deflexed lip; the dark purple side lobes of the basal part of the lip are erect and visible inside the hood. In this species, the hood is half the height of the bracts, not less.

Biology: Flowering from March to May.

Distribution: Eastern Mediterranean region, from Italy to western and southern Turkey, including the Aegean islands, Cyprus and Malta.
