Description: Bulbous perennial. The 2-6 leaves are as long as scape, outer one 15-35 mm broad, ciliate or nearly smooth on margins.
The scape is 30-60 cm. the raceme is multi-flowered (20-50), lax. The flowers bus are violet, the perianth olive-green with violet base, turning livid, 8-11 mm, with lobes 1/2-1/4 times tube.
The subsp. B. m. subsp. pomelii (Maire) Feinbrun, 1939 is endemic to Algeria.
Biology: Flowering in March-April.
Habitat: Macchie, hillsides, fields.
Distribution: Irano-Turanian Element ; Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey (Mersin, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Sanlıurfa), Iraq, Iran, Caucasus.
