Campanula lyrata subsp. icarica Runemark ex Phitos.

Endemic subspecies

Rahes, IKARIA ● Greece

Description: It is a perennial plant, pubescent. The stem is erect or rarely ascending. Basal leaves are cordate. The corolla is violet-blue, cylindrical. The tube is to 25 mm.

Campanula lyrata Lam., 1785 species consists of two subspecies:
C.l. subsp. lyrata – Plant subhispid, scabrid, stem erect or many stemmed with a main stem; basal leaves lyrate or oblong-ovate, corolla tube to 10-20 mm; endemic to Turkey.
C.l. subsp. icarica Runemark ex Phitos. – Plant pubescent; stem erect or rarely ascending; basal leaves cordate, corolla tube to 25 mm; endemic to East Aegean Islands.

Habitat: It grows on rocky places and is quite common on Ikaria.

Distribution: Endemic subspecies to some East Aegean islands, including Ikaria, Fourni and Samos.
