Meise, BRABANT ● Belgium

Description : It is a large, active, deep red damselfly with black legs and a bronze-black top to the thorax which has broad red or yellow stripes. Females occur in many colour forms, but all have yellow bands around the abdominal segments.

Biology : One of the most common damselflies, the Large Red Damselfly is often the first damselfly to emerge, usually in April or May.

Habitat: It can be found in almost any freshwater habitat but rarely on fast-flowing rivers or streams.

Distribution: Europe except extreme North, Morocco, Western Asia.
