by Sami Tamson
Sami Tamson 2014, 24,6 x 16,7 cm, 176 pp., Hardback
Language: Turkish and English
Sami Tamson is born in Paphos (Baf), Cyprus. Graduated in mathematics in 1985, he is teaching in Kurtuluş Lycee of Güzelyurt (Morphou) and interested in Cyprus Flora since 2000. His photography skills are oriented on plants, butterflies and orchids.
This bilingual book Turkish-English presents the 33 orchids species of Northern Cyprus, including information about their identification, biotope, distribution… It is well illustrated with almost 250 photographs, at least 6 for each species. You can see some of them on this video and
on this other video.
The photographs of Sami Tamson have a personal style. The orchids are generally presented on a dark background, witch emphasises their shiny colours.
It is a book of a passionate naturalist, who took the time to appreciate these Cypriot beauties.
The book is supported by Dr. Yiannis Christofides, author of The Orchids of Cyprus (2001), as “a worthy and necessary successor to earlier books on the orchids of Cyprus.”
