Allium guttatum ssp. sardoum (Moris) Stearn
Common names: Sardinian Onion, Sardinian Leek [En], Aglio di Sardegna [It], Benli soğan [Tu]

Ano Poroia, SERRES ● Greece

Description: The bulb is ovoid, 1-2 cm diam. The stem is 10-60 cm.
The outer tunics is membranous or coriaceous, sometimes breaking into parallel fibres.
The 2-4 leaves are filiform, 1-3 mm broad, fistulose. The spathe of 1-3 cm, is 1-valved with beak to 2.5 cm, caducous.
The umbel is subglobose, ovoid or hemispherical, 1-3 cm diam., many-flowered. The pedicels are unequal, central ones to 3 cm, with large membranous bracteoles at base.
The perianth segments are cylindrical, 3-3.8 mm, without spot but with a narrow oblong-linear, green or pinkish stripe.
The anthers are yellow or purple.

Biology: Flowering in May-June.

Habitat: Rocky places.

Distribution: Mediterranean subspecies, from Portugal to Turkey, Cyprus, North Africa, Balkans, Romania, Southern Ukraine, Crimea.
