Orchis anatolica Boiss., 1844
Common names: Anatolian Orchis [En], Anatolisches Knabenkraut [De], Ορχις η ανατολική [Gr], Anadolu Salebi [Tu]

Description: This is a delicate-looking species, reaching 30 to 40 cm in height. The flower spike has 2-15 large flowers rose-purple, seldom white. The sepals (5-)7-11 × 3.5-4 mm, are spreading or ± reflexed, ovate-obtuse. The ovate, 3-lobed labellum, nearly 10-15 mm, usually has purple dots and lines along the centre part. The lateral lobes are obliquely rhombic, truncate and the middle lobe ± rectangular to cuneate-oblong, truncate or slightly emarginate. The spur with distinctly dilated orifice, is slender, longer than ovary, to 3 cm, ± directed upwards with up-curved tip.

Biology: It flowers from March to May.

Habitat: macchie, pine forest, shrublands, stony soils, between 0-1650 m asl. (Renz and Taubenheim, 1984)

Distribution: Southern Aegean Islands, Turkey (West and South Anatolia), Cyprus, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, North Irak, North-West Iran.

Threats: Orchidaceae family is threatened globally due to 1) degradation of habitats, 2) collection.
